Natural Remedies for Anxiety

There are several natural remedies for anxiety available if you don't want to go the prescription medication route. Here are a few to consider but please be advised that vitamins ad herbs are not regulated by the FDA.

Valerian Root 

Valerian Root is an herb that may help reduce the symptoms of anxiety. Valerian Root can be an aide to reducing stress and calms the nerves. You can find valerian root in capsule or liquid form at your local vitamin shop or specific holistic grocery stores such as whole foods. I have also found this herb in tea products. So it is not just a natural anxiety cure but can also help with sleep difficulties resulting from stress.

Kava

Kava is also known as a natural remedy for anxiety. The roots of the plant are used to produce a drink with sedative and anesthetic properties. Kava is sedating and is primarily consumed to relax without disrupting mental clarity. Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. Systematic reviews concluded it was likely to be more effective than placebo at treating short-term social anxiety. Kava can be found in several forms, such as liquid drops or capsule forms. It is also found in many teas such as "Sleepytime Tea" which they sell at most grocery store chains located in the coffee/tea aisle.

GABA

GABA or the full name, Aminobutyric acid, is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system and another natural cure for anxiety. It plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system. In humans, GABA is also directly responsible for the regulation of muscle tone. GABA can be found in capsule form in many vitamin stores.
